Reception & legacy
Strong but supply-constrained — sold out for nearly two years due to global semiconductor shortage and scalper activity; reviews praised SSD load times and DualSense haptics
Severe scalper-driven supply shortages 2020–2022; PS5 Pro $699 launch price (Nov 2024) and disc-drive-sold-separately criticized; Concord (2024) shut down two weeks after launch — one of the most expensive flops in Sony history
Defined the SSD-as-design-feature generation (instant load times, streaming-from-disk architecture); DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers became the most-imitated controller innovations in years; Astro Bot's 2024 success revived the platformer-as-flagship template
