A budget college basketball game with a surprising backstory as the N64's first NBA game that wasn't.
Fox Sports College Hoops '99 was developed by Z-Axis and published under the Fox Sports Interactive brand. It features 120 college teams, two-player multiplayer and the major college championships including the NCAA men's tournament. Jeff Sheppard of the University of Kentucky is on the cover. It was the first college sports game for the N64 and was released in North America in November 1998.
It began as an NBA game with a Michael Jordan license. With Fox Interactive in charge of publishing, the NBA license could not transfer, and Next Generation reported in May 1998 that the game now used the NCAA license and had received an artistic face-lift.
