A middling movie tie-in with a slightly different plot from other versions, and a cart that sits above the middle among US carts.
This is the Genesis version of Home Alone, the tie-in to the 1990 film, developed by Brian A. Rice, Inc. and published by Sega. It came out in North America in December 1992 and in Europe on 8 December 1992. The Genesis and Game Gear versions have a slightly different plot from the other platforms' versions, and each version has its own gameplay.
Sega Pro was unimpressed, calling it a completely average spin-off with average graphics and sound and below-average gameplay.

“This is a very strange game. Guide Kevin (aka Macaulay Culkin) around the district on his snow sled, protecting each house by setting up traps for the unwary burglars. Home Alone is certainly a dif ferent game, but it's dull, slow and very repetitive. Not recommended at all.”
“Based on the movie, of course. Weapon-building is quite novel and occasionally comical. Runs out of gameplay a bit too quickly. One for younger players?”

How the Sega Genesis version differs
The Genesis game has a different plot from the other versions: Kevin protects several neighborhood houses for 20 minutes, sledding between them and fighting the Wet Bandits in 2D side-view house scenes.
Also on other platforms
NES · Super NES · Master System · Game Gear · Game Boy · Amiga · MS-DOS
- Super NES. In the Super NES version Kevin must bring the family's valuables down to a basement safe room while evading the Wet Bandits.
- NES. In the NES version the player must avoid being caught by Harry and Marv for 20 minutes, setting traps around the house.
Before you buy
Among US carts it sits above the middle. The European loose cart usually costs a little less than the US one, while a complete European copy usually costs a little more. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
