The cheapest way to own it loose is the Sega Genesis version ($13).

Prices are per version and are not interchangeable, and neither are the reviews: conversions in this era were often built by a different studio than the original, so a score earned on one machine says nothing about how another plays.

The Sega Genesis version

A Probe action game that did well on its release, and one where the European cart costs far more than the US one.

This is the Genesis (Mega Drive) version of The Incredible Hulk, a Probe game from U.S. Gold that reached North America in July 1994 and Europe on 22 July 1994. Platforming and brawling share the game as the Hulk takes on the Leader and his other rivals, and his human side, Bruce Banner, must sometimes take over to reach areas the Hulk is too big for.

In its first month on sale it was the sixth-best-selling Genesis game at the US retailer Babbage's, and Mega later ranked it 39th in its list of the greatest Mega Drive games. Computer and Video Games, though, called the Mega Drive version's audio fuzzy and hissy.

What the press said at the time

Sega Magazine Issue 8August 199450%
MegaTech Issue 34October 199482%

“Unfortunately, to our dismay, the resulting adventure is perhaps one of the most bland platform beat 'em ups on offer.”

— Sega Magazine, August 1994

“A semi-decent platform game that has nothing whatsoever in common with the licence that it is based on”

— MegaTech, October 1994

How the Sega Genesis version differs

GameFan praised the Genesis game's detailed graphics, animation, long levels and good control and music, calling the difficulty perfectly set.

The Sega versions, including the Mega Drive game, reached Europe on July 22, 1994, a couple of months ahead of the Super NES version.

Also on other platforms

Sega Master System · Game Gear · Super NES

  • Super NES. The Super NES version used music composed by Matt Furniss for the Sega versions, adapted by Steve Collett.
  • Game Gear. The Game Gear game is a 4Mbit version of the Mega Drive game, with five levels and extra graphics by Anthony Rosbottom.

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits about at the middle. The European cart usually costs much more than the US one, loose or complete, so a US copy is the easy one to buy. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
