A tactical role-playing game for the Mega Drive that is a good Japanese pickup for strategy fans, priced a little above the middle.

Langrisser II is a tactical role-playing game, the sequel to Langrisser, made by Team Career and published by Masaya. It came out only in Japan, on 26 August 1994. Jessica, the avatar of the goddess Lusiris, is playable only in this Mega Drive version. The game was later remade as Der Langrisser for the Super Famicom, with multiple paths and reduced difficulty.

Toshiba EMI released an arranged soundtrack album based on the Mega Drive game in October 1994.

How the Sega Genesis version differs

The character Jessica is playable only in the Genesis version.

Also on other platforms

Super NES · Sega Saturn · PlayStation · PC-FX · Windows · Super Famicom

Super FamicomMasaya (publisher)
  • Super Famicom. Masaya remade the game for the Super Famicom as Der Langrisser, with multiple paths, greatly reduced difficulty and reworked graphics.
  • Sega Saturn. The Saturn remake, Langrisser: Dramatic Edition, added a script edit and a new branch of the Imperial path.
  • Windows. The Windows 98 port has redrawn high-resolution graphics but a vastly trimmed-down soundtrack to fit a standard CD.

Before you buy

Among Japan-only carts it sits a little above the middle. The cartridge saves to a battery inside it, so check that the save holds; a replaced battery is a normal repair and not a sign of a fake. Japanese cartridges are a different shape and do not fit a Western console without an adapter or removing two plastic tabs in its slot.
