About War Gods
Billions of years ago, a Being from a distant galaxy was transporting a precious cargo of life giving Ore. The turbulent formation of our solar system caused his ship to crash, scattering Ore over the molten surface of Planet Earth. Through the millennia, Ten Humans came into contact with the Ore and were transformed into super-evolved warriors. These are the WarGods.

A Mortal Kombat-style arcade fighter that critics thought belonged in the arcade, and now very cheap.
War Gods began as a 1996 Midway arcade fighter, heavily influenced by Mortal Kombat, with a signature 3D button for moving into the foreground and background. Eurocom ported it to the Nintendo 64, where it was delayed to tone down the difficulty and add moves. It came out in North America in May 1997 and in PAL regions in November 1997.
Critics from GameFan and IGN felt the N64 port improved on the arcade version's problems with AI and frame rate. GameSpot's Jeff Gerstmann called it probably the first N64 fighter to show off some of the console's power, but most reviewers said it made poor use of the hardware, citing choppy character animation, a low frame rate and slowdown. EGM named it the 1997 game that should have stayed in the arcades, and GamePro compared it unfavorably to even middling N64 fighters like Killer Instinct Gold and Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
What the press said at the time
“In designing for such an advanced machine as the N64, there's no bigger crime than mediocrity.”
“Just a gimmick? No, it actually works really well. Having a 3D button really opens up a whole new area of possibilities for special moves.”
How the Nintendo 64 version differs
A second player joins the N64 game by plugging in the second controller on the character select screen.
A 1997 preview expected the cartridge to have no load time and better graphics than the PlayStation version, which with more storage could offer more secret characters and levels.

This is among the cheaper carts in the library, below the median loose, and fake risk is low. PAL copies cost noticeably more than the North American cart. A complete copy costs about five times the loose price.
