A rough-edged but fun early Genesis wrestler whose signature moves set it apart from the Super NES game.

This is the Genesis version of WWF Super WrestleMania, developed by Sculptured Software and published by Flying Edge in North America in December 1992 and in Europe in 1992. Each of its eight wrestlers has a signature move that can be performed at any time in a match, and there is a WWF Championship mode in which you beat the rest one-on-one to take the title. Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango and Irwin R. Schyster appear only in the Genesis version, not the Super NES one.

Electronic Games thought the graphics not quite as good as the Super NES version's, but said the specialized moves and appearances by Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango, Ted DiBiase and the British Bulldog helped put it over. Mean Machines Sega called it a fun wrestling game, the best on the Mega Drive so far, though it could have used more front-end polish.

How the Sega Genesis version differs

The Genesis version has signature moves for each wrestler, which the Super NES version lacks, and adds a WWF Championship mode.

Its roster has eight wrestlers, with the Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango, Irwin R. Schyster, the British Bulldog and Shawn Michaels exclusive to it.

Electronic Games felt the Genesis graphics were not as impressive as the Super NES version's.

Also on other platforms

Super NES

  • Super NES. The Super NES version has no signature moves, but its roster is larger, with ten wrestlers to the Genesis version's eight.
  • Super NES. Jake Roberts, The Undertaker, Sid Justice, The Legion of Doom and The Natural Disasters are exclusive to the Super NES version.

Before you buy

Among US carts a loose copy sits about at the median. The European cart usually costs less loose, but a complete European copy usually costs a bit more than the US one. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
