A pleasant but ordinary mascot platformer, and a cheap cart.
Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind is a platformer from Accolade in which the bobcat Bubsy defends the planet's yarn balls from alien invaders; its title is a play on the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The Genesis version was developed by Al Baker & Associates. It came out in North America in July 1993 and in Europe in August 1993.
Critics were generally favorable. GamePro's reviewer found the Genesis game graphically identical to the Super NES one apart from a weaker color palette, with Bubsy's moves easier to execute, and Electronic Games listed it among the best action games for the Genesis.
How it was made
The Genesis version was the first one being worked on and was due in September 1992, but Accolade's legal troubles with Sega delayed it. The game was then developed and released alongside the Super NES version, and the two look and sound almost identical.

“The Genesis Bubsy has great game play, great graphics, decent sounds, and a hysterical story line. Although the game isn’t gonna push Sonic off the top of the action/adventure heap, Bubsy's definitely one of the picks of this year's Genesis litter.”
“Bubsy is a good game, dishing out all of the action/platform gaming that you can handle. The Genesis version has better control and playability then its SNES cousin”
“The cheerful music and colourful graphics can’t disguise the frustrating gameplay and lack of originality”
“Guide Bubsy around his back garden. The cheerful music and colourful graphics can't disguise the frustrating gameplay and lack of originality which puts a doubt over lastability. —”
