Nintendo 64 prices, all games & how to spot a fake

A polished but short Disney platformer built on the Rayman 2 engine, best suited to younger players and priced like a collectible.

This is the Nintendo 64 version of Donald Duck: Quack Attack, also known as Goin' Quackers. Ubi Soft Casablanca developed it on an optimized version of the Rayman 2 engine, and Ubi Soft published it in December 2000. The music on the N64 version is a MIDI adaptation of the PC and Dreamcast soundtrack, with fewer instruments and a different style.

IGN's review of the N64 version found it better suited to younger players and likely to bore older ones, and thought its visuals did not match what the same engine had delivered a year earlier in Rayman 2.

How it was made

Developed by Ubi Soft Casablanca and published by Ubi Soft. Daniel Masson composed the music for the N64, PC and Dreamcast versions.

What the press said at the time

“some of the problems | had with the PS-X version have been taken care of here. Donald has more animations and shouts more incomprehensible things during play.”

— Game Informer, February 2001

“Quack Attack is a perfectly competent Disney adventure, beautifully executed and challenging enough without being too frustrating.”

— N64 Magazine, Christmas 2000

How the Nintendo 64 version differs

The N64 version was built by Ubi Soft Casablanca on an optimized Rayman 2 engine, sharing its build with the Windows and Dreamcast versions, and has its own levels and music compared with the PlayStation 2 and GameCube versions.

  • PlayStation. The PlayStation version has extremely adapted levels from the Casablanca (N64) version plus custom ones.
  • Game Boy Color. The Game Boy Color version drops the 3D segments for a fully 2D approach.
  • PlayStation 2. The PlayStation 2 version was developed by Ubi Soft Montreal and later released for the GameCube; the two share completely different levels from the N64 version.

Before you buy

The US cartridge sits well above the library median and above the typical price for games from 2000, so the fake risk is medium: ask for a photo of the board, which is the reliable test, because a cart that boots proves nothing. PAL copies cost noticeably less. A complete copy costs a few times the loose price. The Expansion Pak is optional, since Nintendo listed the game among those it enhances.
