Donkey Kong 64 is a 1999 platform game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It is the first Donkey Kong game to feature 3D gameplay. As the gorilla Donkey Kong, the player explores themed levels to collect items and rescue his family members from the crocodile King K. Rool. The player completes minigames and puzzles as five playable Kong characters—each with their own special abilities—to receive bananas and other collectibles. In multiplayer modes, up to four players can compete in deathmatch and last man standing games.

Rare's huge collect-a-thon is a big, generous cart for the money, as long as you have the Expansion Pak to run it.
Donkey Kong 64 was developed by Rare and published by Nintendo, and it was the first Donkey Kong game with 3D gameplay. You rescue Donkey Kong's family from King K. Rool as five playable Kongs, each with their own abilities, collecting bananas and other items and playing through minigames and puzzles. In multiplayer, up to four players can compete in deathmatch and last-man-standing games. North America got it in November 1999, with PAL regions and Japan following in December 1999.
A 16-member team, many from the Banjo-Kazooie team, worked on it for about three years from 1997, and it was first reported as a 64DD game before moving to cartridge. Grant Kirkhope wrote the soundtrack, which includes the comic hip-hop DK Rap. Nintendo promoted it heavily, including a bundle of a banana-yellow cartridge, the Expansion Pak and a transparent green console, and it became the N64's top seller of the 1999 holiday season.

Before you buy
Fake risk is medium, so ask for a photo of the board on anything beyond a cheap loose cart; a cart that boots proves nothing. The Expansion Pak is required, because the game will not start without it, and new copies came with one in the box. A cart without it is a half purchase, so check whether the listing includes one; copies sold with an Expansion Pak are listed separately and cost more than the cart alone. Not for Resale demo carts (yellow and gray) are much dearer, and there is no published way to spot a fake one, so buy those graded or with a board photo. PAL copies cost less than the US cart, and Japanese copies cost much less. The Rumble Pak is optional.
