A Formula One game from Human Entertainment with decent looks and little else, and a very cheap cart.
F1 Pole Position 64 is Human Entertainment's Nintendo 64 racing game, the fifth and last in its Human Grand Prix series, based on the 1996 Formula One season. Japan received it in March 1997 as Human Grand Prix: The New Generation, and Ubi Soft published it in Europe and North America that autumn. The Japanese release did not carry the FIA and FOCA licenses.
GamePro's July 1997 preview promised 30 drivers, 16 tracks and 22 cars, with a pit-crew radio and damage from crashes and breakdowns. Reviews of the finished game were cool: IGN said the tracks look almost nothing like their real counterparts, GameSpot said it looks good but has little else going for it, and Electronic Gaming Monthly recommended it only to racing-sim fans.

“Despite a few faults, Human Grand Prix is a well put together piece of software, which will suit a lot of players down to the ground.”
“On the surface, Fl seems like a standard racing game, but it has a lot to offer serious simulation fans who want strategy and realism. The best part is that conditions change during the race, forcing you to change tactics and equipment.”
“Unfortunately, due to some visual glitches and dreary gameplay, Fl Pole Position 64 isn't it. … The real tragedy, however, is how soon this racer breaks down.”
“All in all, the game will satisfy Fl enthusiasts and may even nab general racing fans as well.”
Next Generation rated games from one star ("Bad: crucially flawed in design or application") to five ("Revolutionary"); three stars meant "Good: a solid and competitive example of an established game style." Nintendo Power was Nintendo of America's own magazine, so its reviews are the console maker's view of its platform. Undated scores are from the review table in the game's Wikipedia article, limited to reviews of the Nintendo 64 version.
Before you buy
A cheap cart, with a loose US copy below the library median and the fake risk low. PAL and Japanese copies cost far less loose, and the Japanese release is the cheapest complete. Complete copies cost a few times the loose price, so a boxed US copy is still a modest purchase.
