Fighters Destiny, known in Japan as Fighting Cup, is a 1998 video game developed by Genki alongside Opus Corp and Anchor Inc for the Nintendo 64. It closely models the 3D fighting game standards of the time but integrates a unique point scoring system. The game's generic characters and unoriginal presentation have been panned by critics, but reviewers praised its point system and consider it to be one of the best fighting games on the Nintendo 64. It was followed by a sequel, Fighter Destiny 2, released in 2000.

The N64 sequel to Genki's Fighters Destiny, a fighting game that is a pricey pick-up for completists.

Fighter Destiny 2 is the sequel to Fighters Destiny, developed by Genki with Opus Corp and published by Imagineer and SouthPeak Interactive. The Japanese release, titled Kakutou Denshou: F-Cup Maniax, came out in August 1999, and the North American release followed in June 2000.

Critics widely rated the first game, Fighters Destiny, one of the better fighters on the system.

What the press said at the time

“Still, those hankering for a top-hole fighter in a more traditional mode will find F-Cup Maniax more than satisfies any violent tendencies.”

— N64 Magazine, November 1999

“The points system makes this still the best fighter the N64 has to offer. Well, Smash Bros tops it, but is a very different experience. An update could have been a terrific opportunity, but not enough new thinking has gone into the gameplay to make it worth coughing up the readies.”

— N64 Magazine, September 2000

“If the picture on this page of Fighter Destiny 2 looks unimpressive, that's because it is. Mired by horrible graphics, adolescent character design, and inane gameplay”

— Game Informer, September 2000

“Imagineer's sequel to one of the few decent N64 fighting games has 16 characters, a customizable fighting ring and several modes of play.”

— Electronic Gaming Monthly, February 2000

Before you buy

The North American cartridge is pricier than most of the library, and a complete copy costs several times the loose price. The Japanese release is a separate cartridge with a different title. The fake risk is low.
