An average Iguana football game that is nearly free as a US cart, though the European one costs much more.

This is the Genesis version of NFL Quarterback Club 96, developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim, released in North America on 27 October 1995 and in Europe the same year. Next Generation, reviewing the Genesis game, was split: it said the game fixed the previous year's lack of a player license and stat tracking, but it also called it in essence an average football game and found the design and AI lacking.

What the press said at the time

“Acclaim and Iguana Software dug deep for an all-out attack on Madden Football that certainly establishes Quarterback Club as one of the league’s best.”

— GamePro, January 1996

How the Sega Genesis version differs

GamePro found the Genesis game great in most respects but faulted the weak opponent A.I. even at the highest difficulty as a crippling flaw.

  • Super NES. GamePro said the Super NES version essentially mirrors the Genesis game with a similarly offensive-minded A.I. but slightly slower player speed.
  • Sega Saturn. Maximum said the Saturn version's graphics are significantly improved over the 16-bit versions.

Before you buy

Among US carts it is one of the cheapest. The European cart usually costs much more than the US one, both loose and complete, so the US cart is the one to look for. Sega Retro lists it as working with Sega's Team Player. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
