The same folks that brought you TUROK have turned their attentions to the gridiron and have brought great graphics, realistic action, and lots of options to the sport. With full licenses from the NFL and its athletes, the game has all of the teams and players, plus perfect replications of logos and stadiums. Just to assure that the artificial intelligence was high and the gameplay realistic, the developers coaxed Brett Favre into designing some of the plays.

A good-looking football game with flawed play, and one of the cheapest carts you can buy.

NFL Quarterback Club 98 was developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim Sports. It came out in North America in October 1997 and Europe in December 1997. It was billed as the first N64 game with high-resolution graphics and carried the NFL license.

Critics praised the detailed players, and GameFan called it the year's most improved game in its October 1997 issue, but reviews overall were mixed because of long ball flight on passes and weak computer opponents.

What the press said at the time

Next Generation Issue 37January 19983 out of 5 stars

“As I've stated before, this has got to be the year's Most Improved game. NFL Quarterback Club 98 has elevated itself from after-dinner-mint status to the fine wine list.”

— GameFan, October 1997

“In fact, that is the main problem with QBC 64: It's just too slow.”

— Next Generation, January 1998

“In our first real test play of QB Club, we were amazed to see how polished it was already, and the team at Iguana has another couple of months to tweak this game to perfection.”

— Nintendo Power, August 1997

“Quarterback Club's ready to sack your N64 with an incredible look, great features, and some fun new moves.”

— GamePro, November 1997

Next Generation rated games from one star ("Bad: crucially flawed in design or application") to five ("Revolutionary"); three stars meant "Good: a solid and competitive example of an established game style." Nintendo Power was Nintendo of America's own magazine, so its reviews are the console maker's view of its platform.

Before you buy

One of the cheapest carts in the library, near the bottom for loose price. PAL copies cost much more than US ones loose and somewhat more complete. Fake risk is low.
