The cinematic Genesis port of Eric Chahi's classic, a solid pick at a middling price.

This is the Genesis version, called Another World in Europe and Out of This World in North America. Interplay Productions converted it and Virgin Games published it, in North America in March 1993 and Europe in May 1993. You play Lester, a scientist thrown onto a hostile alien world after an experiment goes wrong, in a game told with little language and no on-screen interface.

The Genesis version has its own opening sequence, different from the other versions, and it uses arrangements of the music from the Super NES and Apple IIGS ports.

“Overall though, Another World is an excellent variation on the standard arcade adventure theme which has my breath bated for Delphine’s next Megadrive title.”

— MegaTech, February 1993

“If you're a Genesis adventurer who's looking for new territory to conquer, check out both of these games.”

— GamePro, February 1993

“judging by this excellent MD version, its success is going to continue into the realm of consoles.”

— Sega Force, March 1993

“Another World is an oddity, really. The unusual graphics and impressive filmy bits are stunning at times and the game is structured in a way which means it does feel as if you’re playing through an enjoyable sci-fi thriller, but just like a movie, it’ll all be over in an evening.”

— Mega, July 1993
