About Reversi
Reversi is a computerized version of the board game Othello. During the game, two players take turns placing game pieces on the board in an attempt to trap pieces of their opponents color. Any trapped pieces will then be reversed in color. When the board becomes completely filled up, whomever has the most pieces of his own color on the board wins. The game can be played by two players, or one player against the computer. There are three skill levels the computer can use, and three different board sizes are available, 6 by 6, 8 by 8, and 10 by 10.

A solid, adjustable Othello game with a computer opponent and variable board sizes.
Mattel Electronics released Reversi in May 1982, with APh Technological Consulting as developer. It is the Intellivision's take on the board game also sold as Othello, and you can play a friend or the computer. Computer Entertainer's reviewer liked that the board is not fixed at eight by eight: shorter 6 by 6 and longer 10 by 10 games are available. The reviewer found it easy to learn and quickly engrossing and recommended it.
It was one of a trio of strategy games Mattel put out together, and it suits players who want a quiet game rather than an arcade one.
What the press said at the time
| Computer Entertainer Vol. 1 No. 6 | September 1982 | Graphics ★★★½ · Play-Action ★★★½ |
“This is an easy game to learn, but it quickly becomes very engrossing. Recommended.”
Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — diamonds through early 1987, stars after — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.
Before you buy
A complete Mattel copy has two keypad overlays. Sears also sold it in a standard box, under its own part number. Loose and complete copies price close together, and no sealed copies are listed, so the overlays and manual are the things to confirm.
