About Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion picks up where Turok 2: Seeds of Evil left off. Oblivion, a monstrous cosmic entity that consumed everything in its path and reigned before the birth of our universe is now invading the bodies of the living and devouring them from the inside-out. When the Primagen's Lightship was destroyed, the chain reaction it triggered as a result was so powerful that the universe as it existed was completely eradicated, and the almighty Oblivion was pushed to the very brink of destruction. For the first time, Oblivion felt pain, fear, and hate. Oblivion survived and now desperately seeks a means to punch through the Netherscape that separates our world from the Lost Lands. The last shreds of the pure energy source that created our world and nearly wiped out Oblivion are contained within the Light Burden, the bag that every member of the Turok lineage has carried. Unless Danielle and Joseph Fireseed, siblings that carry the title of Turok, can stop the death of the Turok mantle, it will signal the beginning of the end - the rebirth of Oblivion.

A solid, good-looking closer to the N64 Turok series that reviewers generally liked.

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion is the third main Turok game and a sequel to Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, developed by Acclaim Studios Austin and published by Acclaim Entertainment. It came out in North America in August 2000 and PAL regions in September 2000, and received generally favorable reviews. A separate Game Boy Color game shares the title.

The team removed Expansion Pak units from its development kits before production began, to guarantee a smooth frame rate on a standard N64. GameFan's July 2000 preview said Acclaim had learned from relying on the Pak in the previous Turok game. N64 Magazine's Mark Green called it gigantic, gorgeous and perfectly playable but doubted it could topple Perfect Dark, Next Generation said it closed the N64 series in style, and Nintendo Power singled out the lip-synched speech.

What the press said at the time

“A real mixed bag of gut-tightening brilliance and abject tedium, and nowhere near a match for Perfect Dark.”

— N64 Magazine, October 2000

“I'd even go out on a limb and say that it's the single most intense, most compelling storyline a video game has seen in years. Fit for a movie translation?”

— GameFan, November 2000

Before you buy

Fake risk is low. Loose copies sit well above the library's median price, and a complete copy costs a few times the loose price. PAL copies cost about the same loose and more complete. Nintendo listed the Expansion Pak among enhancements, but it is optional.
