A cheap, mixed-reception crash racer that is at its best in the multiplayer modes.

Destruction Derby 64 is the third game in the Destruction Derby series and the N64 version, developed by Looking Glass Studios and published by THQ under license from Psygnosis. It came out in North America in September 1999 and Europe in October 1999. It adds capture the flag and other modes, and has an increased number of cars and tracks.

Reviews were mixed. Electronic Gaming Monthly's January 2000 review round-up praised four-player capture the flag but marked down a choppy frame rate, while N64 Magazine liked the derby bowls and the Bomb Tag multiplayer mode.

What the press said at the time

“experienced racers and big fans of the franchise would probably be disappointed by”

— Game Informer, December 1999

“Overall, Destruction Derby 64 is definitely not a showcase of the graphical capabilities of the N64, but it looks like it will faithfully reproduce the gameplay that made it famous on the PlayStation.”

— Electronic Gaming Monthly, October 1999

Before you buy

A loose copy sits a little above the library median. The PAL release costs about the same loose and noticeably more complete. Fake risk is low.
