A solid annual football update that finally brought the real NFL teams to the N64 version, and about as cheap as a Nintendo 64 cart gets.

Madden NFL 99 is EA Sports' football game, developed by EA Tiburon, and the N64 version came out in North America in September 1998. After the previous year's Madden Football 64 shipped without NFL team licenses, EA announced in early 1998 that the N64 version of Madden NFL 99 would carry the license.

N64 Magazine's Martin Kitts called it still great stuff, though he thought it had not changed significantly enough from the year before.

How it was made

Developed by EA Tiburon and published by EA Sports.

“Madden 99 has excellent on-field sounds, but seriously lacks the commentary from Madden and Summerall found in the PlayStation version.”

— Game Informer, October 1998

“EA has done it again, and if you don’t end up with Madden ’99 in your N64 library, you either hate football or you don’t know jock.”

— GamePro, October 1998

Before you buy

Low fake risk and among the cheapest carts in the library. PAL copies cost much more than the US cart, loose and especially complete, so a US copy is the one to look for. Complete copies cost a few times the loose price, though in absolute terms they are still inexpensive.
