A forgettable hockey game from Konami that IGN found dull, and a cheap one to own.

NHL Blades of Steel '99, known as NHL Pro 99 in Europe, is Konami's N64 hockey game, developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Osaka. It came out in North America in April 1999 and in PAL regions in September 1999. It is the first Blades of Steel game with an official NHL license.

IGN judged it plagued by terrible gameplay and horrible control, with a few nice touches that did not make up for a dull game. Nintendo Power's review was mixed.

“We've had to wait two years and suffer through what seemed like countless Midway hockey sims to get here, but now N64 owners can enjoy some more competent hockey. … It does, however, far outclass any other hockey sim on the system.”

— GameFan, April 1999

“At this stage in the game's development, it does not look like it will revolutionize video game hockey, but every standard is present and accounted for.”

— Game Informer, February 1999

Before you buy

Fake risk is low. Loose copies sit below the library's median price, and a complete copy costs about three times the loose price. PAL copies cost more than the US cart, loose and complete.
