About Rally Challenge 2000

Speed is the name of the game in this realistic racing experience. Featuring nine unique vehicles, RALLY CHALLENGE 2000 delivers high-octane action, with plenty of options to keep the replay value high. The controls are simple, but the competition is stiff as you jet through the three tracks at three different levels of difficulty. To add to the excitement, your co-pilot is by your side, calling out turns and alerting you to what's around the corner. The game's four distinct play modes offer limitless challenges: there's a user-friendly Arcade mode, an intense four-player Versus mode, a convenient Practice mode, and a Championship mode which allows you to adjust your suspension, tires, gear ratios, and steering. Championship Mode the game's crown jewel presents you with a nine-race series, in which you must rack up more points than your competitors. If you're looking for a fast-moving racing game with tons of options, you've found it in RALLY CHALLENGE 2000.

A rally racer with nine real cars and nine tracks, better as a curiosity than a showpiece.

Rally Challenge 2000 was developed by Genki, released in Japan in August 1999 as Rally '99 and in North America in June 2000 under this name. It features cars from the 1998 and 1999 World Rally Championship seasons. You can race on nine tracks in nine countries, split into easy, medium and expert groups, in nine real cars including the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV, Subaru Impreza WRC and Toyota Corolla WRC.

It is one for rally fans who want an N64 option rather than a game that most collectors chase.

“There is little redeeming about this game other than that it has authentic cars. Cool enough, but the physics are just poor and the looks of the game are pretty dull.”

— Game Informer, September 2000

“With all of the above-average N64 racers that have come out before this one, It’s strange RC 2000 doesn't look and play better. It’s unfortunate.”

— Electronic Gaming Monthly, September 2000

Before you buy

The North American cartridge sits about at the median price for the library, and the fake risk is low. The Japanese release, Rally '99, is a separate cartridge that costs a little less loose and far less complete. A complete copy of the North American release is worth several times the loose price. Games from 2000 and 2001 typically cost more than earlier ones.
