A zany run-and-gun sequel that is still good fun on the Genesis, priced above the middle.
Earthworm Jim 2 is a run-and-gun platformer from Shiny Entertainment. The Genesis version was developed first, with the Super NES version ported from it, and it reached North America on 15 November 1995 and Europe on 22 December 1995. The villain PsyCrow kidnaps Jim's love, Princess What's-Her-Name, and Jim sets out to make him regret it.
Computer and Video Games, in its January 1996 round-up of Mega Drive games, called it essential, with incredible graphics, super-original playability and mutatedly fun levels. Electronic Gaming Monthly's four reviewers were split: one disliked the lack of technique compared with the first game, while the other three called it a worthy sequel.

“The year's outstanding Megadrive title, this slick and funny platformer proved that being limited in bit size needn't limit gameplay.”

How the Sega Genesis version differs
The Genesis version was released in Japan exclusively through the Sega Channel service.
It was released virtually simultaneously with the Super NES version, which differed mainly by having alternate background art and the ability to switch weapons.

- MS-DOS. The MS-DOS port upgraded the soundtrack to CD-DA, added voice clips and redrew the graphics, but dropped the Lorenzen's Soil level.
- Sega Saturn. The Saturn version has upgraded audio and all of the levels from the original game.
- PlayStation. The PlayStation version is identical to the Saturn version, with background art and graphical differences from other versions.

Before you buy
Among US carts it sits well above the middle. The European cart usually costs a little more than the US one loose and about the same complete. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
