About Madden NFL 98
Playcalling expert John Madden again licenses Electronic Arts' flagship football simulation. New features for 1998 include more advanced Quarterback functions such as the ability to play lob passes and adjust timing patterns, and more instinctive AI features to adjust as the match goes on. Squad features have also been advanced, with the opportunity to create plays and trade them. Gameplay is much the same as the other editions, with the full season on offer as well as playoffs and the Superbowl. Everything is presented TV-style, with play-by-play analysis and reports. The contemporary NFL teams are joined by great squads of the past.

A late-era Genesis Madden that is a cheap, battery-saving cart rather than a collectible.
This is the Genesis version of Madden NFL 98, ported by Tiertex and published by THQ, and it came out in North America in 1997. The original game was developed by Tiburon for the PlayStation and Saturn, and the Genesis game was the last Madden released for the Genesis, as well as the last to use 2D sprites on 3D playing fields.
GamePro's March 1997 report on the Genesis lineup named Madden NFL 98 among the few sports titles Sega was preparing for the console that year.
How the Sega Genesis version differs
Tiertex Design Studios ported the game to the Super NES and Genesis, with those versions published by THQ rather than EA.
It was the last Madden game released for the SNES, Genesis and Saturn.

Among US carts it sits below the middle, so it is an easy cart to buy. The cartridge saves to a battery inside it for some modes, so check that a save holds; a replaced battery is a normal repair and not a sign of a fake. Sega Retro lists it as working with EA's 4 Way Play.
